DESCRIPTION of Beagle |
Originally from the British Islands, its origin would probably come from the Isabella period when harriers were matted with ancient English hounds. This breed is specialized in hare, pheasant and quail hunting, it was even used in fish catching; however, even nowadays, this dog is also showing great skills as a company dog. |

CHARACTERISTICS of Beagles |
HEAD: |
Of adequate length. It is powerful, without being tough, finer on the female, free of wrinkles and it doesn't frown. |
The skull is king of rounded, moderately wide. The stop is well defined. |
Wide noise, preferably black even when some soft pigmentation is allowed in light colored animals. Wide windows. |
Its snout should not be pointy; the lips are kind of developed. |
EYES: |
Dark coffee or hazel in color, pretty big, very separated from each other, with a sweet and kind expression. |
EARS: |
Long, with a rounded tip. They get close to the edge of the nose when they are led to the front. Placed low, fine texture, they hand gracefully next to the cheeks. |
NECK: |
Long enough to let the hound lean during the trace; slightly arched. It shows a little double chin. |
BODY: |
Straight and leveled upper line. The body is short but balanced, powerful and flexible, without being excessively high. The thorax goes down to the elbow level. The ribs, well arched, are perfectly extended backwards. |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
They are straight, vertical and well placed under the body; with rounded bones that don't diminish until the feet. The shoulders are placed backwards. Its elbows are firm with no deviations to the inside or the outside. The height to the elbow is almost half the height to the cross. |

BACK EXTREMITIES: |
The thighs are muscular and the knees angular. |
FEET: |
Compact and firm. Well articulated with strong pads. It doesn't present hair feet and short nails. |
TAIL: |
String and moderately long. Placed high and happily carried. It is not curled on the back or leaned forwards from its root. Well covered with hair, especially on the lower part. |
MOVEMENT: |
Leveled and firm back; the dog doesn't swing in its movement. The back extremities show great impulse. It should not present a narrowed movement or a circular movement to the outside or crossing in the front side. |
HAIR: |
It is short, thick, and resistant to bad atmospheric conditions. |
COLOR: |
Any color recognized for hounds, except for liver color. The tip of the tail is white. |
SIZE: |
The minimum desirable height is 33 cm and the maximum is 40 cm. The weight is around 8 and 14 kg. |
