CHARACTERISTICS of a BERGAMASCA SHEPHERD
ADVICE 564
The Bergamasca Shepherd is intelligent, quiet and patient. This makes it a perfect guardian and company dog, good for different works.
ADVICE 565
Frequent showers are not beneficial for the Bergamasca Shepherd. More than two showers per year could eliminate the natural fat that covers its skin.
ADVICE 566
In its six to seven month of life, you can brush it once every two weeks, but as soon as you notice the minimal sight of messy locks formation, you should keep yourself from brushing the dog as frequently.
ADVICE 567
Even when it is convenient to touch it the least possible, you should be alert to the formation of hair balls that could be produced during the fallen of the puppy's soft hair. If this happens, you should try to get rid of them with your hands and reduce its size with precaution.
ADVICE 568
After that you can make occasional superficial brushes to straighten the locks.
ADVICE 569
When lock formations begin, the soft brushing should be reduced to the back.
ADVICE 570
This shepherd dog doesn't loose the hair in every molt, but increases the length of the already formed locks.
ADVICE 571
The coat begins to be formed enough when the dog is three months old; from this moment on, the coat is already considered the one of an adult Bergamasca and it will be brush occasionally and superficially.
