CHARACTERISTICS of Canary Dog
They prey canary is also known as canary dogo, and the stripped ones are known as vasto or verdino. It's originated from the Canary Islands and Tenerife. It was originally used as a fighting dog.

Its appearance shows strength. Serious look. Specially used as a guardian and for defense and traditionally used for steering cattle.

DESCRIPTION of Canary Dog
HEAD:
Arrow shaped. Looking like a cube. Solid appearance. The skull proportion is 6 to 4. The frontal-nasal depression isn't sharp.
SKULL:
Convex in the sense of being from the front to the back and across. Very marked zygomatic arch, with very developed muscles on the temples. The mid forehead depression is marked. The occipital crest, is not very marked.
SNOUT:
It is shorter than the skull. It is normally about 40% of the head's length. It is very wide and continuing from the skull. The facial-skull lines are straight or slightly convergent.
TRUFFLE:
Wide, darkly shaded black. Well opened nostrils.
LIPS:
Of medium thickness and meaty. The upper one hangs slightly, and seen from the front it forms an inverted V. The mucous membranes are dark, although they can appear a bit pinkish; however a dark color is more preferred.
MAXILLAS:
Well fit and with a strong implantation. Due to its origin slight prognathism is allowed. Typical bite of a prey dog. Missing molars aren't penalized, since prey retrieving is done with the incisors and canines, which must be well aligned and set. The canines have wide transversal space. The roof of the mouth is well marked with a pinkish hue.
EYES:
Slightly oval. With good spacing. The eyelids are black. The color varies from medium brown to dark depending on the color of its coat.
EARS:
Hanging when they are complete. Abrupt root, of medium size and high placed. The folds being pink. If they are cut traditionally, they are upright or semi-upright, and triangular shaped. The dogs with complete ears will compete with the same preference as dog with the amputated ears.
NECK:
Cylindrical, straight, solid and very muscular. Its fairly short and the lower edge has loose skin which add to the double chin. The medium length is between 18 and 20 cm.
FRONT EXTREMITIES:
Perfectly aplomb, with wide bones and covered of strong and visible muscles. The elbows shouldn't be too close to the rib cage or outward. Tight cat like feet. Solid blck or white nails, depending on the coat's color.
BODY:
Its length is normally more than the cross height by 10%. Wide chest and very broad, with well marked pectorals. The thoracic circumference will be the same as the cross height plus 1/5, although it is preferred if it is larger. Well arched ribs, almost of cylindrical structure. Straight dorsal-lumbar line, lifting slightly at the hindquarters. Apparent saddleback, right behind the cross. Straight, medium and wide hindquarters. The height is normally 1.5 cm more than the cross height. Flanks are slightly marked, only insinuated. Belly moderately tucked, forming a prolonged arched line from the ribs.
TAIL:
High placed, flexible, thick at the root, thinning out towards the tip, reaching the hock. When in movement it is raised like a sable, with the tip forwards, without curling.
BACK EXTREMITIES:
Strong, well aplomb from the front and side. Long and very muscular thighs. Cat like feet. Normally it doesn't present spurs. Hocks without deviations and are low. The presence of spurs can take away point, but it doesn't lead to disqualification.
HAIR:
Short throughout the whole body. Generally thicker at the cross, throat and buttocks. Without an undercoat. Compact on the tail. With a rustic look, with a rough look.
COLOR:
Completely stripped (bardines), including all shades, from very dark to grey to very light and blonde. Black. Lion colored in all its hues to sandy. It can sometimes have spots around the neck which reach the skull (neck-laced), or towards the extremities (footwear), it is preferred when the presence of white is the least possible. In general they have a more or less long white spot on the chest. The face mask is always drk and can even reach the height of the eyes.
SIZE:
The cross height on males is of 61 to 66 cm and57 to 62 cm on females. With dogs that surpass this height should be properly proportioned between the length of their extremities and the trunk. The average weight of males is 45 to 57 kg and 40 to 50 kg on females.
