DESCRIPTION of a Dalmatian Puppy Dog |
The Dalmatian is very firm; characteristically spotted, it is strong, muscular and active. It has a symmetrical contour and profile, without rudeness and great resistance to considerable speed. |
HEAD AND SKULL: |
It has an important length, the skull is flattened and it has it widest point between the ears. The stop is clearly marked. |
SNOUT: |
It is long, potent and never pointy. The lips get perfectly adjusted to the maxillas. The truffle is black, in variety with black spots; and brown on the variety with liver spots. |

TEETH: |
Strong maxillas with scissor like bite. |
EYES: |
Moderately separated from each other, middle size, rounded and shining, with intelligent expression. They are dark in the variety with black spots with the eyelid of the same color. On the variety with liver spots, the eyes can be from brown to amber. |
EARS: |
Middle size, placed high. They are wide at the base and they gradually reduce, ending in a rounded point. |
BODY: |
The thorax is deep with a great capacity and very arched ribs. The back is powerful, muscular and kind of arched as well. |
TAIL: |
It approximately reaches the hock. Strong at its base, with no roughness and refines to the tip. It is carried with a light curl up but no twisting. |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
The shoulders are moderately oblique, bright and muscular. |
ELBOWS: |
Close to the body. Straight, strong members with good bones. |
BACK EXTREMITIES: |
Well developed muscles, good knee angle, slightly leaned hocks. Seen from behind, the members should be parallel. |
FEET: |
Rounded, compact, very arched toes. Rounded pads, strong and elastic. Black or white nails in the black spot variety and brown or white in the liver spots variety. |
MOVEMENT: |
Great liberty of movement, with rhythmic actions, long steps. Seen from behind, the members move in parallel lines; the back members follow the front ones in one same plane. |
HAIR: |
Short, hard, dense, straight and shiny. |
COLOR: |
With pure white background. The spots on the black spot variety should be of an intense black; and on the liver spot variety of a liver brown color. They should not mix ones with the others. The spots should preferably be round, well defined and with a good distribution, in diameter of 2 or 3 cm. The spots on the tail or the head, should be smaller. |
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT: |
The height to the cross on males is around 56 and 61 cm and its weight around 27 and 32 kg. The females are around 54 and 59 cm and weight around 24 and 29 kg. |
