CHARACTERISTICS of the Doberman |
Contrary to other breeds that have been developed for natural selection, the Doberman is a clear example of the things that man is capable to do in relation to animal breeding. |
On the creation of the Doberman, it was its function and not the appearance what ruled. However; its beauty is evident, even though it was overlooked. |

They are extremely impetuous and intelligent, its character provokes some not very favorable comments, but rest assured that there are no bad dogs, even when there are bad Doberman owners. |
The primitive Doberman were more likely to the old Rottweiler. Many of them used to have white spots on the chest or on the paws and some of them even presented curly hair: nothing to do with the modern ones. |

DESCRIPTION of the Doberman |
HEAD AND SKULL: |
Long in proportion with the body. Very full under the eyes, with definite lines. The head in its upper part should be as thick as possible and with no wrinkles. The skull should be flat without very pronounced stop and the line of the snout parallel to the upper line of the skull. Its cheeks are flat and the lips tight. The nose is black, very dark brown on brown dogs and dark gray on the blue ones. |
EYES: |
Dark with an expression of intelligence. |
EARS: |
Amputated straight (it can also compete with the ears uncut) |
HAIR: |
Short, dense, hard and adhesive. |
COLOR of the : |
The permitted colors are black, brown and blue, with spots of a rusty red color, well defined and delimited that appear over the eyes, the snout, the throat, the fore-chest, the paws and feet and under the tail. The white spots are not accepted. |
There are currently four tones of color, all of them with the characteristic spots. The ideal color is red, varying its tone from mahogany, going through maroon, toasted or yellow and reaching straw color. |

The basic colors are black, brown, gray and beige. The colors are mentioned in the standard in a more detailed but confusing way; everything is basically reduced to the following: when red is mentioned, we are really talking about a reddish brown, the blue is really leaden gray and fawn is silver beige. |
TAIL: |
It is amputated at the first or second articulation so it will look as a continuation of the spinal cord. |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
The front feet are well arched but not turning to the inside or the outside, compact and cat like. All of the spurs should be taken out. The weak canes and the plane and deviated feet are penalized. |
BACK EXTREMITIES: |
The rear feet should be very arched and compact, without turning to the inside or the outside. |
HEIGHT: |
On the males the height to the cross varies around 62 and 68 cm; on females, around 58 and 65 cm. |
