CHARACTERISTICS of the kuvasz dog |
It's the closest breed to the Tibet Mastiff, the oldest of shepherd dogs. The name of the breed comes from Sumerian literature. |
It can be trained as a guard and protection; even without training it develops these qualities. Its of lively character, permanently predisposed to attack, characteristics that must be controlled through its upbringing. |
The temperament of the Kuvasz is normally reflected by its surroundings. If it sees good behavior it will act accordingly with exemplary kindness. On the other hand if the environment is rough, it will be hostile. |
ADVICE 765 |
If tied up it becomes wild. A Kuvasz is incontrollable only when handled improperly. |
ADVICE 766 |
At present it is used as a guard house for country houses, factories, etc. He guards what he has been taught as his territory and will allow no intrusions. |
ADVICE 767 |
They are also used with quite some success to take care of kids. Was also used with good results for boar hunting; in this type of use their braveness was a big advantage. |
ADVICE 768 |
This is not a dog for an owner without character. |
ADVICE 769 |
Never pick up a Kuvasz puppy by the front legs. If you want to lift, using both hands; place one underneath its chest and the other over the tail. |
ADVICE 770 |
Let the puppy have contact with other animals and people right away. A young Kuvasz puppy is clumsy & fun. |
ADVICE 771 |
This breed is relatively slow to mature, it might not calm down until it is full grown and in some cases past two or three years old. During the months of training (from three months to about one year) it must be caring & friendly yet firm. |
ADVICE 772 |
The Kuvasz is a very active dog, and if it's going to live in a house, or more specifically an apartment; its exercise is something that must be considered. A young adult needs to run a couple kilometers a day. |
