| CHARACTERISTICS of the Labrador Retriever Breed |
| It has the name of its place of origin, in the Labrador Peninsula, Canada, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Hudson. Fishing being one of the main activities in the region, this canine was used by the fishermen to retrieve fish, especially cod. Also helping in the spreading out of the nets, which is why it is a very good swimmer. |

| HEAD: |
| Well figured, without thick cheeks. |
| JAWS: |
| Its jaws and teeth are strong and have a perfect scissor like articulation, regular and complete. |
| TRUFFLE: |
| Wide, with well developed nostrils. |
| EYES: |
| Of medium size; with an intelligent & good character look. They are brown or hazel. |
| EARS: |
| Not big or heavy, falling close to the head and are placed backwards. |
| NECK: |
| Clear, solid and powerful, well inserted at the shoulders. |
| FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
| Long and angled shoulders, with a good skeleton, well seen from the front and behind. |
| BACK EXTREMITIES: |
| Well developed. The hindquarters don't go down at the tail. Angled joints. Low hocks. Cow-like joints are not accepted. |
| BODY: |
| The chest is very wide & it goes downward; the ribs are semicircle. The dorsal line is horizontal and with a broad short and strong back. |
| FEET: |
| Round and compact, well arched toes and developed pads. |
| TAIL: |
| Very thick at the root, thinning out towards the tip, the tail is completely covered with thick, dense, short hair. It shouldn't be curled over the back. |
| MOVEMENT: |
| Loose; covering a lot of terrain. The front and hind legs move parallel to the body's axel. |
| HAIR: |
| It is a characteristic of the Labrador. Short and dense, without curls or fringes; when touched it seems rough, the under hair resist the cold very well. |
| COLOR: |
| Uniform and complete black, yellow, brown (liver or chocolate). The yellow goes from light cream to reddish (like a fox). A small white spot on the chest is permitted. |
| SIZE: |
| Ideal size is 56 to 57 cm on males & 54 to 56 on females. |
