Long nails make the dog walk inappropriately; they will often get stuck and break.
|
In general, active dogs that exercise a lot usually don't present nail problems because it is precisely the exercise that makes the length of their nails to be the adequate one.
|
ADVICE 75 |
You will have to do the following in order to cut your dog's nail: with one hand press the finger of the dog in order to make the nail come out and cut the nail with the other being careful not to cut the vein located in the same area. |
You will find lots of nail clippers in specialized market for dogs. |
ADVICE 76 |
The breeds of dog that have a fifth nail, should have more frequent checkups, this is because this nail doesn't wear out at all, so its growth is constant and it can get stuck on the flesh. |
THE BATH |
We must say that we don't recommend you to shower the puppies before six months of age or if the dog has been recently vaccinated even if the animal is an adult. |
ADVICE 77 |
As a general rule, you should wash your dog every two or three weeks. For that, you have to use a special type of shampoo for each hair and rinse it with a lot of water. |
ADVICE 78 |
Before bathing the animal, it is convenient to give it a soft and relaxing brush, so you will eliminate the strange bodies and residual hair, besides that, you will be able to make a visual inspection just in case it has parasites. |
ADVICE 79 |
Generally, baths by obligation are not well accepted by the dog, so if this is your case, try to be kind with the dog in these moments of tension. |
ADVICE 80 |
Transmit confidence to your dog and it will feel more comfortable and relaxed. |
ADVICE 81 |
We don't recommend; except for an adequate type of shampoo for your dog, the application of colognes or hair deodorants. With that, you will probably contribute to eliminate the natural fat of the dog's hair. |
ADVICE 82 |
It is important to make an exhaustive drying with a hair dryer after the dog's shower, at the same time as you brush the hair giving it the adequate shape. |
If you don't dry the hair properly it may cause serious problems to the dog's skin, even the appearance of fungus. |
THE PARASITES |
A great number of common diseases are produced by parasites, some of these parasites are serious in themselves and others are only annoying, but they can transmit other internal diseases. |
You have to keep in mind that the diseases produced by virus and bacteria are rarely transmitted to humans. It is useful to distinguish between external parasites; ectoparasites, and internal ones, endoparasites. |
ECTOPARASITES |
They are on the dog's skin and hair; the most frequent ones are the ones we mention below. |
|
|
|
ACARUS |
SARCOPTES CANIS |
It produces sarcoptic mange, it is located in the inner part of the tunnels that it digs in the skin, the affected animals usually have an intense itching and the skin dry and with abundant crusts. |
DEMODEX CANIS |
It produces the demodecic mange; the parasite is located in the inner part of the hairy follicle presenting two shapes: the scaly one, with the generalized lack of hair and abundant desquamation and the pustulous, in which the skin appears reddened with a wound, since it will get infected with bacteria.
|
ADVICE 83 |
They are easy to diagnose from the filing of the skin; however, the treatment is usually long and hideous because the results are not immediate. |
OTEDECTES CYNOTIS |
This acarus is in the hearing conduct causing otitis. The affected dog frequently shakes its ears and scratches them insistently. The diagnosis is based on the identification of the parasite through a microscope provided with a magnifying glass. |
