DESCRIPTION of the |
Compact dog; with proper characteristics for underground hunting. Short limbs; always alert, with an imposing presence and low activity. The head looks long in proportion with the body. It is very agile and active in spite of its short limbs.

HEAD: |
Long, but proportioned to the dog's size. The length of the head must be wide, although with a thin look. |
SKULL: |
The skull must be almost flat and cheeks shouldn't protrude. The forehead must be strong and deep along its whole width. The skull and forehead have the same length. The frontal-nasal depression (stop) is slight but visible. The nose is long and from the side the line that goes from the nose to the chin looks like it goes all the way back. |
EYES: |
Almond shaped, dark brown; fairly separate from each other and deep set under the eyelashes with a sharp and intelligent look. |
EARS: |
Clean, fine textured; pointy, upright and placed high on the skull very close together. Large and wide ears at the base aren't very desirable. |
SNOUT: |
Large teeth, with a perfect and complete scissor like bite; meaning the inner side of the upper incisors makes contact with the lower ones and the teeth must be implanted in a right angle of the jaw. |
NECK: |
The neck is muscular and of moderate length. |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
The neck is inserted on a muscular neck, moderately long and well sized; inserted over long and inclined shoulders. The thorax as well placed in front of the front members, god boned and straight metacarpus. The fairly wide cheat and suspended between the front members which must jut out at the elbows or placed under the body. |

BODY: |
Well arched ribs and placed backward flattening out to give the thorax depth. Proportionally short back and very muscular. The body's upper line is straight and leveled; deep and muscular loin, the ribs are robustly set on the back extremities. |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
Considerably strong for the dog's size. Thick and wide buttocks, deep thighs and well angled tibia tarsus articulations; short and strong hocks, without turning inward or outward. |
FEET: |
Of good size, with good pads, well arched bunched toes. The front feet are alight larger than the back ones. |
TAIL: |
Must be of moderate length, adding to the dogs general harmonious build. Thick at the base and thinning out towards the tip, carried vertically or with a slight curb. |
HAIR: |
Stuck to the body; double layer: short, dense and smooth undercoat; the outer hair is hard, dense and wiry; both layer protect it from cold weather. |
COLOR: |
Black, wheat or any striped color. |
SIZE & WEIGHT: |
The cross height is 25 to 28 cm and it weighs, from 8 to 10 kg. |
