CHARACTERISTICS of the Sealyham terriers |
With all the enticing qualities of a terrier the Sealyham also has a perfect size for a company dog.
With a vigorous, lively and bold character, without ever losing its charm.
In appearance its body is longer than taller, without being square. It is robust by having everything in a small volume.
Its dandie dinmont inheritance marks its charming character in spite of being a serious looking dog.
This is dog grows very close to its master without losing its independence.

DESCRIPTION of the Sealyham terriers |
It is of free, active and proportionate movements; strongly fit in a small body. Having an oblong outline, not square. |
HEAD & SKULL: |
The skull is slightly convex and wide between the ears. Not protruding cheeks, strong, square and long maxillas. The nose is black. |
EYES: |
Dark, well placed, round and of medium size. The outer line of the eyes are preferred dark, but not pigmented are also accepted. |
EARS: |
Of medium size, slightly round at the tip and carries beside de cheeks. |
SNOUT: |
Parallel and strong teeth, the canines fit well between each other and are long comparing to the dog's size. Strong maxillas with a scissor like bite; meaning the inner part of the upper incisors make close contact with outer one if the lower incisors; the teeth must be implanted at a right angle from the jaw. |
NECK: |
Fairly long, thick, muscular and well placed on oblique shoulders. |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
Short and strong limbs, as straight as possible, compatible with a low chest. The point of the shoulders is inline with the tip of the elbows, which must be together on the sides of the chest. |
BODY: |
Of medium length, flexible; leveled back; well arched ribs; broad and deep thorax, low between the front limbs. |
BACK EXTREMITIES: |
Especially strong considering the dog's size. Broad and muscular thighs, with well angled femur-tibia-kneecap articulations. Strong tibia-tarsus (hocks) articulations, well angled and parallel to each other. |

FEET: |
Round, cat like feet, with thick pads. The feet are completely forwards. |
TAIL: |
Implanted with the back line and carried upright. The back buttocks must stick out further than the tail's inserted point. Generally amputated. |
MOVEMENT: |
Fast and vigorous, with plenty of impulse. |
HAIR: |
Long, hard wiry outer layer. The undercoat is resistant to cold weather. |
COLOR: |
Completely white, or white with lemon, brown, blue or reddish spots on the head and ears. Excessive black spots or splotches are not desired. |
SIZE & WEIGHT: |
The ideal weight for males is around 9 kg and females 8 kg. |
The cross height should never be more than 31 cm. |
