Leash Walking a Dog.

How to train your Dog to walk on a Leash

Go to Index

Outdoor exercises are very gratifying when your dog walks conveniently next to you.

Teaching a dog how to walk on a leash.

ADVICE 253
It is almost always easy to teach a puppy to walk off the leash because it will be willing to go with you happily. Most of the puppies will also follow the smell of the traits, so it is convenient to have them at hand and even show them to the dogs to motivate them.
With the puppy at your left side, grab it by the collar with the hand of the same side while you show it a treat with the right hand. Attract its attention by calling it by its name.
While you walk in a straight line with the puppy following its prize, give the dog the "next to me" order. Keep your left hand low, ready to grab the puppy's collar.
Order it, "wait" and get on your knees at the right side of the puppy, holding the treat low so the puppy won't jump. Place your left hand with the palm facing down, lower the puppy's body; this will keep it from moving.
Bending your knees and keeping the food near the puppy's snout, turn right while you repeat the order "next to me". The puppy should quickly turn around you.
When turning left, guide the dog holding the collar with your left hand while you give it the order "go on". Keep the food low in your right hand, moving it to the left. The puppy should follow it.
PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
If the dog gets distracted
ADVICE 254
When the puppy gets distracted, put it in the right position by grabbing it strongly by the collar with your left hand
Rebellious behavior
ADVICE 255
If the puppy doesn't respond to the food stimulus, try to get its attention with one of its favorite toys.
ADVICE 256
Use long robe to ensure its obedience.
If the dog jumps
ADVICE 257
To keep the dog from jumping, hold the puppy's collar with the left hand and tempt it with the hidden prize in the right hand that you will keep low.
Enjoying the training
ADVICE 258
If the puppy is not interested in the food prize, try offering the dog for example, a sound toy. The training sessions should be short, no more than a couple of minutes each time, always finishing with a period of fun playing.
