DESCRIPTION of a YORKSHIRE TERRIER Dog |
The Yorkshire terrier or "yorkis" are small dogs with a sweet look that are characterized by there long silky hair. Its long hair should be a grayish blue, except on its head, chest and low limbs, that are tawny brown. This long hair almost hides the entire body, which is straight with short legs and an amputated tail. |
HEAD & SKULL: |
It must be fairly small and flat, with a not very prominent skull, nor round, nor a very long snout; with a black snout. |
EYES: |
Medium sized, dark and shinny, with an intelligent and lively look, placed in such a way that they look directly forward. They mustn't protrude and the edge of he eyelids must be dark pigmented. |
EARS: |
Small, V shaped, carried upright and not too apart, covered with short bright tan colored hair. |
MOUTH: |
Perfect, scissor like bite, leveled and complete; meaning the outer upper teeth must touch the lower ones on their inner part and must be implanted perpendicularly to the maxillas. The incisors must be placed leveled on the maxillas (of the same size). |
FRONT EXTREMITIES: |
Well placed shoulders. Straight members, covered with tan colored hair, and bright golden, with slightly lighter hues at the tips than on the root, not growing further than the knees in the front legs. |
BODY: |
Very compact, with a moderate arched ribs, and a good back. |
BACK EXTREMITIES: |
Straight limbs when seen from the back; moderate knee angle. Well covered with tan colored hair and with a bright golden hue, with lighter shades at the tips than on the roots, the tan hue shouldn't reach past the knees in the rear limbs. |
TAIL: |
Cut, of medium length, with lots of hair, a darker blue compared to the rest of the body, especially on the tip of the tail; which is carried a little higher than the backs level. |

MOVEMENT: |
Free, with a trust, with a straight movement, both in the front and back, keeping the back line leveled (parallel to the floor). |
COAT: |
The hair on the body should be moderately long and perfectly straight (not wavy), shiny like silk and of a silky texture, not wooly. The lock on the head should be bright golden and long. The color is brightest on the sides of the head, around the base of the ears and on the snout, where it must be long. The tan on the head shouldn't reach the shoulders, nor should it have any soot colored or any shade of dark hair mixed with the tan. |
COLOR: |
Dark blue (not silver blue) which goes from the occipital (or end of the skull) to the root of the tail and never mixed with beige, bronze or dark hairs. The hair on the chest is a bright and lively tan. All tan hair must be darker at the roots than at the middle, lightening out towards the tip. |
SIZE: |
The ideal weight for this breed is a few grams under three kilos. Af far as eh height, about 23 centimeters are enough. |
